Calculating New York Unemployment Benefit Amounts
Determine Your Weekly Benefit Amount
Unemployed? We want to help.
To determine your Weekly Benefit Amount (WBA), divide the amount of your highest gross wages earnings quarter by 26.
Example: If your highest quarter wage earnings was $3,575, then your WBA will be $137.50. If your earnings were below $3,575 in your highest paid quarter, you divide that number by 25 to get your WBA.
Example: If your highest gross earning for a quarter was $11,525, your WBA will NOT be $443.27 as you cannot collect more that the state determined minimum. In this case, your weekly benefit amount will be capped at $430.
Determine Your Maximum Benefit Amount
To determine your Maximum Benefit Amount (MBA), divide your total base period earning by four.
Example: If your base period gross earning was $41,000, your MBA for the benefit year is $10,250.
Example: If your base period gross earning was $53,500, your MBA for the benefit year is NOT
$13,375 as you cannot collect more than the state mandated MBA of $11,050 in any given benefit year.
