The ESD was established in the state of Washington in 1939. Since then, the ESD has been helping the Washington workforce through times of job loss and helped reemploy thousands through training and other job services.

Today, most of the contact with the ESD is available through the internet and postal mail. Coming in November 2016, a new site will even allow claimants to file appeals via the internet. Currently, you can only contact the office via fax or postal mail.
