Nebraska Unemployment Insurance
The Nebraska unemployment insurance program is governed by Nebraska Employment Security Law and the Nebraska Department of Labor. Unemployment insurance offers workers supplemental monetary compensation when they become separated from employment. To access unemployment insurance programs, you will need to earn a certain amount of wages, and meet all eligibility requirements.
Unemployment insurance is not a welfare program, and any monies you receive from the program must be claimed on your state and federal income tax returns for the year. When you submit your initial application, you have the option to have taxes withheld from your weekly benefit payments.
Unemployed? We want to help.
Benefits are paid from the Nebraska State Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund. The fund is supported entirely by a special tax to employers. No deductions are taken from employees’ paychecks for unemployment insurance.
You will need to track your work progress via the NeWorks website, should you be approved to receive benefits. This process isn't difficult, but it does require carefully following the proper guidelines and legislation.
