Work Search Requirements

Texas Work Registration Program

In order to collect Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits, you are required to register for work in Texas within three days of applying for benefits and complete work search requirements. Remember, this is a separate process from applying for unemployment benefits.

After you apply for benefits, you will receive a letter that will outline the minimum number of work searches that must be completed every week. When requesting payment, you will be asked if you have completed your minimum work search requirements. If you fail to comply with this requirement, you will be deemed ineligible for benefits.

While you will not be asked to provide details every week, you can be audited at any time during your benefit year. If this occurs, the Texas Workforce Commision will request that you send in your specific search details over a set period of time to the address or fax provided. You will want to keep accurate and detailed records including date of the activity, employer names, and contact information, and the result of the activity to avoid criminal prosecution or loss of benefits.
