Minnesota Unemployment Insurance
The Minnesota Unemployment Insurance Program (UI) is managed by the Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED). Unemployment insurance provides temporary financial help for unemployed Minnesota workers. Approximately, 4 percent of Minnesota’s residents were unemployed as of August 2016. In Minnesota, unemployment benefits are funded through a tax paid by employers throughout the state. The funds are used to supplement wages if workers become unemployed or have reduced work hours through no fault of their own. As a wage replacement funded by employer taxes, unemployment benefit payments are taxable, and taxes can be deducted from your benefit amount.
